Workforce Development Fund

The Skills for Care Workforce Development Fund is available to support the development of your staff. It is a fund available to social care employers that focuses on the achievement of qualification units, supports workers ongoing professional development, and supports qualifications at level 2 upwards.

Employers can use WDF to make a significant contribution towards the costs of their staff completing QCF units and qualifications including units that develop staff knowledge around autism, dementia and mental health. It can also be used to fund Health and Social Care Apprenticeships.

WDF funds £15 per credit of QCF units with a maximum of 60 credits per learner per funding year being able to be claimed.

Qualifications which are larger than 60 credits can be claimed over more than one funding year.

If you’d like to access WDF you need to join an employer-led partnership. In our area the partnership is run through the Care.

Alliance for Workforce Development (CAWD) and your contact point is Teresa Dobson e-mail: or call 01723 502 411.

To access the WDF it is necessary to fully complete and / or update the required National Minimum Data Set for Social Care (NMDS-SC).
