The benefits you would get for becoming an member of ICG

What and who is the ICG?

ICG is a membership organisation for care providers in York and North Yorkshire. Our members include care homes for older people, homecare agencies, care homes for specialist clients, services and supported living for Learning Disability organisations, and extra care housing. We are committed to helping members to give the best possible care to their clients.

What are the benefits we provide?
- Personal Support
A full time senior officer on hand who will talk through issues with you and provide individual support and information in complete confidence.

We represent your interests in numerous meetings where we aim to ensure that the independent sector is taken into consideration. We pass on a wealth of information of use to you, for example: CQC changes, Safeguarding Adults, Mental Capacity Act, End of Life Care.

As a collective, we aim to represent your concerns and interests through working closely with the Local Authority and the NHS CCG Commissioners and entering negotiations on your behalf with the statutory sector.

For example; We have put the case to the Local Authority for fee increases for your publicly funded clients by looking at the actual cost of care.

In 2012 , working with some good members as Claimants, ICG took the case for fees for care homes for older people in North Yorkshire to the High Court for Judicial Review. We agreed to go to formal Mediation with the Council and reached agreement on an Actual Cost of Care exercise to be undertaken by an independent company. We assisted in the appointment (by tender) of Genica. The City of York Council also agreed to be part of the Actual Cost of Care exercise. Through this exercise we were able to negotiate and agree realistic uplifts in fees with the council.

ICG was also the joint commissioner of a second Cost Care exercise carried out on 2016 by Mazars to inform fee rates.

Raising issues on behalf of the sector carries much more weight than an individual.

- Regular e-mail updates
Every week you receive information to make sure that you are kept abreast of both local and national issues, which will aid you in running your organisation and keeping you up to date. Whether it is local training opportunities, regulation changes or best practice guidance you need to know about, the documentation you need is sent to you directly by e-mail. We also keep you updated on issues locally which affect the care sector - for example work with the Clinical Commissioning Groups. Members with a special interest can request more information. The ICG updates is the service most valued by our members. Great evidence when CQC inspectors locally are asking how do you keep yourself up to date.

- A regular newsletter, Independent Care Matters
To keep you abreast of local issues, this can also be used as part of supervisions or training for your senior staff members. The newsletter is posted out quarterly and covers all the hot topics for our area including a page for your letters. By sending the newsletter to County Councillors, City Councillors, MPs, MEPs, Chief Executives of Borough and District Councillors and NHS Trusts, and senior managers at the local authorities and the CCGs we ensure that a wider audience is made aware of the issues which are affecting our sector. Please let us know of anything you would like to see covered.
